Here is a news ARTICLE and video (15-May-19) out of Utah that is interesting. We have a lawmaker (finally) fighting to get relief in removing some convicts from the sex offender registry. Those non-violent offenders along with those caught in internet stings. Interestingly enough the last word is by the local DA saying People caught in a sting (and people) who actually target and victimize children, those are very serious offenders, and the DAs office and the public have no sympathy.
Our challenge is getting through to people like this DA. How can they equate people who actual target and victimize children with those caught in a sting operation?
James 1:13-15 (NIV)
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
It is a very tricky situation. Where our desires lead us down a road seeking something but then the police / undercover officer lures us in another direction. Is that fair? Enticing and luring? We need to be very careful out there. Watch our words, watch our heart, pay attention to our gut and in all cases seek guidance from God. Those caught in sting operations now know where evil desire can lead. It is a very hard lesson learned. I believe society puts too much weight on these Sting Operations. It is certainly not fair and has A LOT of ethical and moral questions which need to be asked on the behaviors and deception by undercover law enforcement running these operations. Essentially they are playing the devil, creating evil and bring judgement.
With continued Strength, Courage, and Prayer,
